SPEC2000. E-Commerce, available but not yet a worldwide reference

Created by the airline industry to revolutionize the multi-billion dollar aviation parts business, Spec 2000 is a comprehensive set of e-Business specifications, products and services that are designed to automate interaction between material suppliers and end users (MROs and operators).

With every company using its own IT system for spare management it does make sense to have a translation tool that avoids manually entering order data. This reduces type errors, human interface and therefore costs and enables automatic responses to keep both systems updated at all times.

Even with the XML format available for SPEC2000 transaction and the possibility to escape from the ARINC or SITA networks there is still low penetration on the day to day transactions.

We shall see in the coming years a revolution in information sharing utilities and is still unclear if SPEC2000 will indeed lead the way.
